The wave came in at about three feet and reached up to the main road. It covered the entire Kalama Park - which had just dried out after it had flooded (during all the flooding we had been having). The wave hit on March 11, 2011 at 3:00 am. This is what it looked like 7 hours later at 10:00 am. The waves were still pulling out and then rushing back in, but not past the beach - still kind of cool to see.</div><div></div><div>Video below of The Cove </div></div></div></div></div><br /></div></div></div><p align="center"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dw8iVuAIcag8f3kKzOlaEUbrWqtfhNwxwN1QgFns6xeZ9U3hUg3iKAVaADndkOhQF3KEgDrs0T19YtVnkw-zA' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></p>Lorainehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09179856993909778153noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5827154956082395308.post-6949609474762212292010-11-20T11:37:00.003-10:002010-11-20T11:41:46.969-10:00Another Picture from Oahu Trip<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_pBoUpSJMkxA/TOhAU0J4wTI/AAAAAAAAAj8/xenfn2-tmLQ/s1600/scan0001.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 256px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5541750067821068594" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_pBoUpSJMkxA/TOhAU0J4wTI/AAAAAAAAAj8/xenfn2-tmLQ/s320/scan0001.jpg" /></a><br /><div>I scanned in the picture we took at the front of the Haunted Lagoon at the Polynesian Culture Center. I had to make the starch from the pia root and then I had to get milk from coconuts. My friend Tina helped me with the coconuts. She must be really strong or I must be really weak. It was hilarious trying to husk the coconut myself. After watching me struggle and make a couple of dents in the coconut Tina asked to take over (she probably didn't want to be there all night!). We (well mainly Tina) did seven coconuts to come up with two cups of milk. First you husk them, then crack them open (I couldn't even do that), then you grate the meat. Then you take the husk fibers, roll the meat in them and ring it like a towel to get the milk. It took us about 2 1/2 hours from start to finish (including getting the coconuts). </div><div>Here is a video of Tina husking away.</div></div></div><br /><p align="center"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dxIuGhxE0jc9o_jDw2ikjkhDSSoIK24ehZmoE1_y5CW8rwBRzSRQWQ5iLRb1OUK2pLJiYvd6bpt6Q_QQeEZNg' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></p>Lorainehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09179856993909778153noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5827154956082395308.post-48382977679028269052010-11-12T20:12:00.003-10:002010-11-12T20:23:14.995-10:00Oahu Trip<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_pBoUpSJMkxA/TN4uOSDwyII/AAAAAAAAAjU/wdtBx4eMI4g/s1600/DSCF1059.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538915414612953218" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_pBoUpSJMkxA/TN4uOSDwyII/AAAAAAAAAjU/wdtBx4eMI4g/s320/DSCF1059.JPG" /></a><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pBoUpSJMkxA/TN4uN6Q_9zI/AAAAAAAAAjM/lEgB3J_DRPo/s1600/DSCF1060.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538915408226023218" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pBoUpSJMkxA/TN4uN6Q_9zI/AAAAAAAAAjM/lEgB3J_DRPo/s320/DSCF1060.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pBoUpSJMkxA/TN4uNkfotMI/AAAAAAAAAjE/EZq1r1DPJx4/s1600/DSCF1062.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538915402381833410" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pBoUpSJMkxA/TN4uNkfotMI/AAAAAAAAAjE/EZq1r1DPJx4/s320/DSCF1062.JPG" /></a><br /><div>We went to Oahu Halloween weekend for two reasons. #1 we went to the 1st birthday party of Jordan and Jayden. #2 We wanted to go through the Laie temple during the open house. We had lots of fun. Our friends Rob and LiPing met us over there. We also spent time with Seneca Alberdi (she is going to school at BYU -Hawaii). The other fun thing we got to do was experience the Haunted Lagoon! Oh my gosh, it was way scary. I screamed all the way through. There were actual people under the water (way gross water) and they would come up and grab you as you drifted through on your raft. Richard and Kyler swam with the sharks and we did a little sight seeing - including stopping for shave ice at Matsumoto's.</div></div></div>Lorainehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09179856993909778153noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5827154956082395308.post-33283239975124660342010-09-06T08:33:00.003-10:002010-09-06T08:39:00.212-10:00Youth Cultural Event IIMy friend Suzy took some video of our Samoan dance. The dance was 10 minutes long and this is only 2:30 minutes. The energy was way high - I think it is one of those, "you had to be there to feel it" type of things. The best part of the dance (not shown) was when they all sat on the ground and did dance moves (way fast) and slapped the floor - which echoed throughout the building. It was way good.<br />Copy in the below to your browser to watch on you tube.<br />http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmQUhPdAxkk&feature=player_embeddedLorainehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09179856993909778153noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5827154956082395308.post-42887407260293023642010-09-04T23:19:00.004-10:002010-09-04T23:27:48.916-10:00Youth Cultural Event<div align="center"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pBoUpSJMkxA/TINiOua78vI/AAAAAAAAAic/0RXAei60TdA/s1600/Kihei+YM.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 214px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5513358373950321394" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pBoUpSJMkxA/TINiOua78vI/AAAAAAAAAic/0RXAei60TdA/s320/Kihei+YM.jpg" /></a> Kyler is 4th from the right, back row<br />Last weekend was our weekend long Stake Youth Cultural Event. Each ward was assigned a country - our ward was Samoa. Friday - make a display for your country and then food from your country for everyone to taste. I think our food was a hit - we had a huge line at our table. We made poni popo - homemade rolls with a coconut custard poured over top and sapa suey - long rice, corned beef and cabbage all mixed together. And then there was a dance afterward. Saturday everyone played a game from their country and then Saturday night each ward performed a 10 minute dance from their country. It was way good, and I would say our ward was the best but that would just make me sound prejudice. Sunday all the youth drove up to Pulehu (the first church building built in Hawaii - first baptism held near there as well) for a Sacrament/Fast and Testimony meeting - it is a very spiritual place. This is a picture of the young men before driving up to Pulehu. </div>Lorainehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09179856993909778153noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5827154956082395308.post-21499217921928925412010-09-04T23:13:00.003-10:002010-09-04T23:18:39.717-10:00Warren & Annabelle Magic Show<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pBoUpSJMkxA/TINgOav6p0I/AAAAAAAAAiU/KaHizPVRiXU/s1600/Warren_Annabelle.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5513356169646352194" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pBoUpSJMkxA/TINgOav6p0I/AAAAAAAAAiU/KaHizPVRiXU/s320/Warren_Annabelle.JPG" /></a> <div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_pBoUpSJMkxA/TINgNyJN5uI/AAAAAAAAAiM/QEnRgQuCAS0/s1600/Me_Richard_Magic+Show.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5513356158746617570" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_pBoUpSJMkxA/TINgNyJN5uI/AAAAAAAAAiM/QEnRgQuCAS0/s320/Me_Richard_Magic+Show.JPG" /></a> We went to the Warren and Annabelle Magic Show a couple of months ago with our friends Suzy and David. Suzy just sent me the pics so I thought I would post a couple. We went to dinner first and then to the show. It was so fun! It is a one man show - he does all slight of hand up close magic. You can either ride a boogey board or a small surf board. They tried both. I think this was the second or third time they've been there. I think they enjoyed it. They fell an awful lot and I know Kyler was definitely sore the next day. <img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5458279582708249554" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pBoUpSJMkxA/S7-0XHwXs9I/AAAAAAAAAeE/oRFDPRm7jBg/s320/100_2830.jpg" />Kyler taking a tumble and being sucked back up and over the top.<br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pBoUpSJMkxA/S7-0WurRQtI/AAAAAAAAAd8/pbj5LFrCgBA/s1600/100_2829.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5458279575975969490" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pBoUpSJMkxA/S7-0WurRQtI/AAAAAAAAAd8/pbj5LFrCgBA/s320/100_2829.jpg" /></a> Kyler using the surf board. We had a potluck brunch and an Easter egg hunt for the kids. We also tossed around some balls and some Frisbees and just enjoyed each other's company. We ended with Michelle reading the Easter story to us from the New Testament. It was a really fun morning. We came home and watched conference on TV (which we had set to record). There is a giant boulder on the side of the road called the Bellstone. It is supposed to sound just like a bell if you hit it in the right spot. I tried, as you will see but with no success. It did sound hollow once, but I never heard the ringing of the bell - I guess no angels received their wings with this beating of the rock (like on It's A Wonderful Life).</p>Lorainehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09179856993909778153noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5827154956082395308.post-30851225652692309782010-04-05T19:00:00.013-10:002010-04-06T14:12:34.016-10:00West Maui Mountains Trip<div align="center"><span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">Kyler</span> and I both had Spring Break and Richard was done with his Census job so it was the first time in a long time that all three of us had a week free. We decided to pretend we just landed in Maui on vacation and we were going to do all the tourist type activities. Well life got in the way - especially since the maids never came to clean our rooms nor did the landscapers come to mow the lawn but we still did do some fun things. One of those was our trip around the West Maui Mountains. It is kind of a winding, in some places a one-lane road but it is very scenic and there are lots of things to stop and see. My sister and I had taken a tour around the mountains before but Richard and <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">Kyler</span> had not done it yet. I thought we had to leave way early but we left so early that by the time we got to the few shops that are there they were not even open for business yet. Oh well, I guess I'll have to do it again sometime. Following are pictures of our day trip.<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 333px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 255px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5456897786833788546" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_pBoUpSJMkxA/S7rLoA_X3oI/AAAAAAAAAZY/QDYDN9K038Y/s320/W+Maui+Hike_5.jpg" />We hiked down to some waterfalls. There was a huge <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">banyan</span> tree between the two falls. You held on the roots of the tree to climb down to the second set of falls.<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5456897765600011314" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_pBoUpSJMkxA/S7rLmx42JDI/AAAAAAAAAZA/MJvCgmH_n2U/s320/W+Maui+Hike_2.jpg" /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5456897785831206994" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pBoUpSJMkxA/S7rLn9QVsFI/AAAAAAAAAZQ/G9KON2KdbVg/s320/W+Maui+Hike_4.jpg" /><span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-error">Kyler</span> and I on the trail<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5456897760406049058" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_pBoUpSJMkxA/S7rLmeigkSI/AAAAAAAAAY4/IKRcVauTqZw/s320/W+Maui+Hike_1.jpg" /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 246px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 325px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5456901161109977554" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_pBoUpSJMkxA/S7rOsbJgedI/AAAAAAAAAaA/pyjYDMWHWJM/s320/W+Maui+Hike_9.jpg" /></div><p align="center">First set of falls</p><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5456901884549423266" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pBoUpSJMkxA/S7rPWiK6YKI/AAAAAAAAAaI/yKkQisqbSt4/s320/W+Maui+Hike_6.jpg" /> On our drive around we saw some really nice houses. This speech was supposed to inform you about something. This was a huge undertaking. We had to prepare an outline, exactly how the teacher wanted. We had to meet with him after class for about 1 1/2 hours to go over it. Then we had to transform it into a speaking outline and practice, practice, practice. I think I did pretty good. My speech was how to make <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">sugar</span> from sugar cane. They had to be between 7 - 10 minutes long. Mine ended up being 11 minutes long (based on some of my mistakes - you'd never know I used to do this for a living!) So pop some popcorn, sit back and enjoy. You too will know how they made that white sandy sugar from sugar cane.<br /><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dyvBxX_0XYGRNRGXMec2y-jtqShA-T5tv2yyYErJe-Y2fRSUoNcaUzVWubYDMtGa2sSHEOkGQX2sZGw8PFEHQ' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe>Lorainehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09179856993909778153noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5827154956082395308.post-55083655563696357012009-10-04T12:19:00.007-10:002009-10-04T12:49:52.036-10:002nd SpeechHere is my second speech. Fast forward to me at about 5:15 (there are about five people on this video). We were supposed to watch our introduction speech and then do a "Bad" speech. So anything we did wrong in the first speech we had to really exaggerate in this one. As you can see...I said a lot of "and ums" and every time I looked down to advance the slide my voice dropped so I really exaggerated all in this video - these are pretty funny.<br /><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dxnEISvEh4fI3gU8t4hgOYkEbbmHnG2I_fbcUe8w3Ob1KQeElSrQ9U2CGj7PA-IkaH57W8z65ASFMeCIY6qBQ' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe>Lorainehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09179856993909778153noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5827154956082395308.post-80526183689695685242009-10-04T12:07:00.006-10:002009-10-04T12:39:36.909-10:00Public Speaking at Maui Community College<p>This was my first speech for my Public Speaking class at school. I took this class because it is a requirement for the Liberal Arts degree and I had hoped it would be easy for me (I only did this for how many years!) Well it's been kind of tough because the teacher wants you to do everything his way...which of course isn't my way. This was our first speech, we each had to introduce one of our classmates.
