More West Maui Mountains Trip

One of the hikes you can do - don't know how you would go up other than straight up. We just walked around the base and out toward the ocean.

There were more strange rock formations there too.

The last town is famous for their banana bread. We were told to stop at "Lorraine's" for the best bread. We got shave ice too. That's the other Lorraine in the picture.

This is the church in that town - it is very famous since so many people have taken pictures of it.

Richard's commentary is pretty funny. There is a giant boulder on the side of the road called the Bellstone. It is supposed to sound just like a bell if you hit it in the right spot. I tried, as you will see but with no success. It did sound hollow once, but I never heard the ringing of the bell - I guess no angels received their wings with this beating of the rock (like on It's A Wonderful Life).

West Maui Mountains Trip

Kyler and I both had Spring Break and Richard was done with his Census job so it was the first time in a long time that all three of us had a week free. We decided to pretend we just landed in Maui on vacation and we were going to do all the tourist type activities. Well life got in the way - especially since the maids never came to clean our rooms nor did the landscapers come to mow the lawn but we still did do some fun things. One of those was our trip around the West Maui Mountains. It is kind of a winding, in some places a one-lane road but it is very scenic and there are lots of things to stop and see. My sister and I had taken a tour around the mountains before but Richard and Kyler had not done it yet. I thought we had to leave way early but we left so early that by the time we got to the few shops that are there they were not even open for business yet. Oh well, I guess I'll have to do it again sometime. Following are pictures of our day trip.We hiked down to some waterfalls. There was a huge banyan tree between the two falls. You held on the roots of the tree to climb down to the second set of falls.Kyler and I on the trail

First set of falls

On our drive around we saw some really nice houses. This guy had built a full working volcano in his backyard!

After the falls we stopped at one of the look out points. It was kind of cool the way the dirt had eroded. The rocks were really just crumbly dirt. It was pretty high up - it was a really nice view

Last Speech of the Semester

Well...this was my "final" speech - as in my last one for the semester and as in this was my final for the class. This speech was supposed to inform you about something. This was a huge undertaking. We had to prepare an outline, exactly how the teacher wanted. We had to meet with him after class for about 1 1/2 hours to go over it. Then we had to transform it into a speaking outline and practice, practice, practice. I think I did pretty good. My speech was how to make sugar from sugar cane. They had to be between 7 - 10 minutes long. Mine ended up being 11 minutes long (based on some of my mistakes - you'd never know I used to do this for a living!) So pop some popcorn, sit back and enjoy. You too will know how they made that white sandy sugar from sugar cane.

2nd Speech

Here is my second speech. Fast forward to me at about 5:15 (there are about five people on this video). We were supposed to watch our introduction speech and then do a "Bad" speech. So anything we did wrong in the first speech we had to really exaggerate in this one. As you can see...I said a lot of "and ums" and every time I looked down to advance the slide my voice dropped so I really exaggerated all in this video - these are pretty funny.

Public Speaking at Maui Community College

This was my first speech for my Public Speaking class at school. I took this class because it is a requirement for the Liberal Arts degree and I had hoped it would be easy for me (I only did this for how many years!) Well it's been kind of tough because the teacher wants you to do everything his way...which of course isn't my way. This was our first speech, we each had to introduce one of our classmates. The first part of the video is about two minutes long - its of me introducing Mark, the second half is Mark introducing me.

Cynthia's Visit to Maui III

Picture of Cynthia after she arranged flowers she found in the yard.

We learned how to make tile coasters at Enrichment night. We made some so I could sell them at the Sugar Museum Gift shop. (As of Oct. 1st, I have sold six of them.) This the the Hawaiian Quilt pattern.

These are the honu coasters (turtles).

Richard took Cynthia to LaPerouse one day while I was at school. It's a really neat place - the last lava flow, from the last eruption (about 200 years ago). The water is so blue there.
A little mini hermit crab in her hand.
A man throwing his fising net out.
A picture of Cynthia take a picture.

Our Vacation to California - Sacramento Temple

We went to the temple to do baptisms for the dead. Pictured: Kyler, Codey, Jennifer, her husband Rodney, and another son Jay (Jay has since received his mission call to Billings Montana).

Me in the picture this time.
